Workshops
Northumberland Players offers workshops in theatre performance and theatre production.
Workshops provide opportunities to learn from recognized, experienced and knowledgeable teachers. They are conducted in a group at the Firehall with others who share the passion for community theatre.
In addition, there are workshops offered by other organizations in the community that might be of interest.
The Northumberland Players presents a Sound Workshop that starts at the beginning of how sound is created and found to be used in one of our shows.
Sound effects have moved away from records and tape players to the digital world of computers. The Players use a PC-based machine for sound playback. We will supply laptops to work with. These machines will be loaded with the free sound editing program Audacity. Then, we will learn how to load those effects onto the SCS11 (Show Cue System), our cue playback system.
This workshop offers a step-by-step process for creating sound effects, from sound in the script to stage sound effects. Willow Quartet, directed by Mary Schultz, is our first show at the Firehall Theatre. Mary will join us to discuss her show and the vision and needs she has for it.
This workshop has only five seats and is open to Northumberland Player Members only. A ten-dollar fee is charged to reserve your seat. The session is August 17th at 10:00 am, and lunch will be provided.
Audacity is compatible with PC or Apple operating systems. If you are an Apple user, you can bring your device to the workshop and use it for the first part of the session.
Victor Svenningson is a retired technical theatre manager who started working with mixers and tape decks long ago. Today, we have moved into the digital age. This session will be about how he creates his shows for the Players.
The Northumberland Players will continue from where we left off. We review what we talked about in part one and then do a much more in-depth look at the SCS11.
Sound Cue System, known as, SCS11, is a very powerful Theatre Sound Playback software package. It can be used for a simple two-channel show or as many channels as you have hardware. You can set the required level (volume), pan, length and speaker selection for each cue. Level Change cues can dynamically adjust cue levels. Playlist cues can look after your pre-show and intermission music, and Video cues can play video and image files via a video projector or separate monitor.
This session will discuss and learn how to use these powerful options within this program. We will look at what the Players have in terms of hardware and how to set up a multi-channel show.
Willow Quartet, directed by Mary Schultz, is our first show at the Firehall Theatre. Mary will join us to to review the effects we created in our Part One session and then set levels in the theatre.
This workshop is open to Northumberland Player Members only. A ten-dollar fee is charged to reserve your seat. The session is September 7th at 10:00 am, and lunch will be provided.
