Watch "STRETCH"

Writer's Notes

What is your play about?

A newly pregnant stressed out 35 year old struggling actor overhauls her life and jumps at the opportunity to open a yoga studio in a desperate attempt for serenity and stability only to encounter the complete opposite.

Why did you write it?

This play is an excerpt from a full length screenplay that I adapted for this festival. The screenplay is based on the novel, "Stretch: The novel formerly known as Namaste, Bitches."

The novel, screenplay and short are all loosely based and inspired by my own personal experiences, with a healthy dose of exaggeration, imagination and embellishment. I chose this piece because after years of having it live in my head, I wanted to finally bring it to life!

How does your show play with a sense of place, given that this is a virtual festival?

This is the first time I've participated in something like this and I'm working with some actors I've never met in person! We're doing our best to honour the locations in the script, but I'm keeping things fairly simple so as to not get in the way of the storytelling. Well, as simple as possible consider the size of my cast! It's a great exercise in creativity and I'm learning as I go!
