Workshop: Lighting Design, Build, and Operation
$20.00
David Hoare has been a theatre-techie since high school, where he got sucked into backstage work as part of the Claude Watson arts program in Toronto. He trained at the National Theatre School in technical production, and then spent several years working around Ontario and abroad as a technician, designer, and technical director. After migrating to teaching communications technology, David and his family moved to Cobourg in 2002, where they immediately got involved with the Players. According to the NP Archive, David has been involved in 13 shows onstage, and 70 (that can’t be right, can it?!?) behind the scenes, including designing lights for many of the major musicals. He is passionate about the art of lighting, and loves sharing that magic with an audience, and with his students whenever possible.
This year’s lighting design seminar will focus on designing for large venues and musicals. It will take place across 2 evening sessions at the Capitol Theatre. During the first, we will discuss lighting design theory, the specific facilities and equipment we have to work with, and the production process of taking a design from ideas to reality. The second evening will be a chance for the students to experiment with the lighting board and the existing show setup, painting with light, building cues, and trying out different looks and ideas. Students don’t need any prior experience or expertise at all, but should commit to being present for both evenings.
Tuesday, February 25, 6:30-9:00pm
Wednesday, February 26, 6:30-9:00pm
$20 for both sessions. Please plan to attend both nights. No experience necessary.
