The Northumberland Players Summer Theatre Camp is seeking applications for 1 camp leader and 4 camp counsellors for a well-established program based in Cobourg, Ontario.  Each job includes a 4-day training session (starting June 22 for camp leader or June 29 for counsellors) and runs to August 21, 2026.

To qualify for these positions, which may be funded under the Canada Summer Jobs Program, candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and be eligible to work in Canada. CPR/First Aid training is also an asset.

The positions offer great opportunities to build experience in pursuit of a career working with children in fields such as social work, child psychology, education, daycare, or the performing arts. Performance skills in theatre and music and experience in working with youth in music, drama, or dance are assets. The positions require 4 days of paid training followed by 7 weeks of supervising and instructing youth (5 days a week, 8:30 to 4:30 with some light duty cleaning to prepare for the next day).

Positions Available:

Camp Leader – The leader will supervise and coordinate activities in a set drama curriculum. The role involves some instructional responsibilities including directing and teaching of theatre skills.  Scheduling of instructors, liaison with parents, supervising safe delivery of programs, and evaluation of staff are critical to this role. The leader will also prepare some of the materials required for the camp such as plays and instructional materials.

Counsellors – Counsellors will instruct theatre students from a set curriculum. The weekly activities and skill development culminate in a small production. Theatre skills such as a knowledge of lighting, sound, and computer use are preferred.  Dramatic Arts skills are an asset.  An interest in music, acting, and technology is essential.
