NEW for 2024 - White Crane Performing Arts Volunteer Scholarship

Delphine White, in her career as a costume designer, was always ready to mentor newcomers and strongly believed in passing on her knowledge.

Jan Crane, an immigrant, is forever grateful for the opportunity she was given to pursue higher education as an adult through Canada's manpower program “women into trades and technology”.

Together they shared a love for the performing arts, which they believe are often undervalued.

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize youth who volunteer their creativity in the performing arts for non-discriminatory causes and inclusive organizations in their community. It is to assist with the financial burden of seeking higher education in their chosen field. “Volunteer” activities are considered unpaid activities outside school hours. This excludes compensation for expenses and food etc.

Criteria
The student applying for the White Crane Performing Arts Volunteer Scholarship must:

  • be graduating from secondary school and pursuing post-secondary education;
  • fill out the application posted on the Northumberland Players website (form to be posted in June, 2024);
  • provide documentation of a commitment to a post-secondary institution (this may be a receipt for residents or first instalment to the institution);
  • have documented proof of the volunteer activities in the community such as references, playbills and letters of recommendations;
  • have used skills related to “creative activities” relating to the performing arts whether performing, writing, designing or contributing behind the scenes;
  • have approval of the Northumberland Players’ Education Committee and the Board of Directors.

Activities must comply to the Northumberland Players Code of Conduct and be for non-discriminatory causes in their community.

Students taking a gap year may apply upon graduation or before they attend the post-secondary institution.
